A Different Kind of Pod

I've spent a lot of time in recent weeks downloading MP3 files of my favorite songs. Yes, I'm late to the MP3 party, but I've been making up for lost time since being gifted with a cute little iPod shuffle of my own (she's a nice girlfriend, ya'll). I have to admit, I really like the organization and ease of use associated with Apple's iTunes. iTunes, however, must be downloaded and installed for use, and that's something I cannot do on my work computer. (I know; our IT department has WAY too much control.)

I also discovered that songs I purchase from iTunes are MP4 files, and it's a real bitch to successfully convert them in order to access them via any medium other than iTunes. While wending my way around these little obstacles (and also seeking less expensive alternatives), I came across this little graphic from emusic.com:

Fallopian Tubes, anybody? C'mon, it doesn't take a lesbian to see THAT.

That's a good one.

Problems with iTunes? I've never really had problems converting iTunes format to WAV files. I also haven't installed the newest upgrade to iTunes, maybe they have changed things.

Also, if you want to burn an iTunes song more than the allowed number of times, which I think is 3, you can get around it by ripping it to a WAV file and then letting iTunes turn it back into an iTunes format.

Lucky you, your girlfriend does rock.

Oh Words, PERFECT!!!!

Wen, you might want to check out Audacity for changing file formats. I was shown it at a computer teacher thing last summer, but never played with it. It's free, open source, software. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. It may or may not be what you're looking for, but worth a look.

Weese, I forgot myself, I had just checked work email, and was still in the work brain mode, not the girly pink brain. ;)

Would is macified of me to point out that if you had Macs everywhere, you would not have the conversion problem? Yes, I think it would.

GFB uses allofmp3.com (I think that is it) which is a Russian site and is legit as far as she can tell. Apparently, Russia pays way less in royalties which is why the site is so cheap.

iTunes took about 14,000 mp3's of mine and organized them into a nightmare. I've been working for weeks to get it back to the way I like 'em.

But my li'l Nano? I heart it. Gotta love those chicks that give good gifts!

I love my Nano, too!

By the way... have you ever noticed that the tail-light logo on the Dodge Ram series of trucks looks like fallopian tubes as well?

I told Mrs Gunfighter that a few years ago and she looked at me and said: "WTF goes through your head, sometimes?"

So I have to tell you, I was sitting in a very long, boring meeting today, when one of the attendees takes out his two iPods, to show a not-in-the know teacher. As he's going over it, all I could flash on was this post and words' iUterus comment! Thanks for putting a smile on my face, you two, without even knowing it! :)

"Free" downloads. Bullshit! Have they no idea how much money it costs to raise 25 kids?

Oh bah. All of you PC people need to jump ship and just go all Apple. Don't make me use the word "superior" or anything.

;) Lucky you for a nano. Way sexy.

I despise the necessity to use iTunes to transfer anything to an iPod. Luckily there are 3rd party applications to circumvent this. A coworker of mine was complaining about the same thing, that we're not allowed to install iTunes on the company computers. So I found this little free app called Sharepod. He tried it out and said it works like a charm. You might want to check it out: http://www.sturm.net.nz/website.php?Section=iPod+Programs&Page=SharePod
